[I’ve got just about everything] @

[Honeysuckle Rose] @

[Human Nature] @

[so far away] @東京

[Samba de Uma Nota Só] @

[Grateful lights from the sea] @

I’ve Got Just About Everything (New York session)

A lively song written by Bob Dorough, who himself remains very lively and active even at age 92. Migiwa’s full-bodied arrangement gives this version an authentic New York polish. I especially like Oscar Perez’s elegant piano solo. Actually, the day before we recorded this song, Bob Dorough surprised us by playing it for us himself!  A true miracle, making this track a particularly memorable one for me.

Honeysuckle Rose  (New York session)

A jazz standard. The other musicians told me my scat singing lit a fire under Steve Wilson, and indeed, his sax playing here crackles like lightning. Dennis Mackrel, veteran of the Count Basie Orchestra, delivers the famous drum beat of “Sing, Sing, Sing”; I’m still amazed I could sing along with it….

MG4BB (Tokyo session)

A killer tune from the club music era of ten-odd years ago. Tania Maria played this song, written by Mondo Grosso. At that time, everybody got fired up listening to and singing this song. Who could have imagined that one day in the future I’d record this song backed only by a single guitar?

Human Nature (New York session)

Most people know this song already, as it was made famous by Michael Jackson.  The arrangement is driven by Yosuke Terao’s bass groove, creating a cool, jazzy vibe. Migiwa played piano on this song, and when you hear how we “breathe” together here, you get an idea of the depth and length of our friendship.

So Far Away  (Tokyo session)

Carole King’s famous song, here matched with the Brazilian marcha rhythm. Takanori Maehara’s beautiful guitar playing resonates in the heart.

O Ronco da Cuica (Tokyo session)

Composed by Brazilian singer-songwriter João Bosco. In this version, you can enjoy the aggressive side of guitarist Takanori Maehara’s style. I truly can’t believe that everything I did here—singing, scatting, handclapping, and playing shaker—I did in a single take.

Samba de Uma Nota Só (New York session)

By Antonio Carlos Jobim, of course. It’s been covered by many, many people, but this special arrangement by Migiwa brings out my bright and fun-loving nature. What a marvelous feeling it was “riding” on Dennis Mackrel’s drums as I sang!

Moon (Tsuki)  (Tokyo session)

I wrote this song a number of years ago, at a time when some of the important people in my life, for one reason or another, passed away. I recall looking up at the autumn sky, seeing the moon rise there every evening, and missing the people I had loved but would never see again….

Grateful Lights From The Sea  (New York session)

Migiwa’s original. Each of her songs brings a scene to my mind, moving me, but this song in particular suggests the moonlight shining on the water, enveloping me in a beautiful and gentle feeling. Happiness and sadness alike are wrapped up in her piano playing here.
